Start Winning in Life with Your Bed!

People always ask me how I'm able to do all of these things while progressing. My answer? "I make my bed every morning."
You may think I sound ridiculous, but how many of you actually do this? Some of you don't mind your bed being messy, while others find it absurd that you leave your house without even hesitating. Now, I'm not here to debate whether having a clean bed makes you a better person overall, but I will agree that it makes your mentality to accomplish your goals that much easier. How so? With it being the morning (unless you're on night shift like my girlfriend), you can already claim that you completed one of your tasks for the day. This can then motivate you into completing other, rather tedious tasks such as school & work projects, errands, and chores around the house.
When you continue to make your bed every morning, it'll start to become second nature - this will make you have a natural instinct to complete any task thrown your way. Not only will this occur, but your attention to detail will develop as well. Here's my own story about making my bed, and how I've continued to make it for over two years: Note: I may at times self-acclaim to have OCD in regards to organization, but this did not actually begin until I took a step back and reevaluated myself!
When I took the first steps to make my bed, I had to wake up a few minutes earlier than expected ( a whopping five minutes earlier!). I wasn't too thrilled about it, but with time, I became more focused on the details of how my bed was made such as the folds, wrinkles, pillow placement, etc. instead of just completing my bed and moving on with my day. When this started to be a habit for me, I started to notice my productivity in my overall life improved. For starters, waking up a little earlier forced me to go to bed earlier as well, which supported a few areas: 1). I was getting rest at an appropriate time instead of staying up later, 2). I had more time in the morning to get ready for the day, 3). I wasn't sleeping in as much on the weekends or off-days.
I have always been attentive to details when it came to work & school projects, but I was now going in with a fresh mindset; I accomplished one thing already, what would stop me from accomplishing anything else in my life? With my focus on detail towards my bed, my habit of doing the same for other tasks in my life activated. In the past two years, I've been able to accomplish the following. This is limited, but here are some of the highlights:
- Graduated with my M.B.A. and worked 60 hours a week
- Enrolled in my M.Ed. while working an Assistant Director of Admissions
- Paid off all $32,000 of my students loans, and investing in multiple platforms
- Worked part-time for the Philadelphia Union during all home games
- Drove for Uber whenever possible, and work as a barback on the weekends
Is there a habit or task you complete everyday that makes you feel more accomplished?
