Pandemic? No Problem!

Like myself, you’re probably wondering where this pandemic is going to take us and when will it all be over. If you or a loved one has been affected by this virus, I wish you the best and that all of you come out stronger than before! Although these uncertainties of how society will restore itself have constantly circulated in discussions and debates, I believe this can still be a time to create opportunity for yourself. In fact, you should be using this time to learn a new skill, pick up that side hustle you always thought about in the back of your mind, or educate yourself on something you wish you had more knowledge on.
There was a post I saw that said, “If you don’t pick up that skill or side hustle now, then you don’t have a time issue, but a self-motivation problem.” Now more than ever, even if you are still required to work your typical hours (if you’re fortunate to be in the position where you don’t have to claim unemployment), you are in a situation unlike any other stretch in your life. Innovation is created in times of despair; don’t let these few weeks/months go by wasting your time watching every series on Netflix or so consumed by the unfortunate events propagated on news stations. It’s still important to remain updated with what’s happening in your community, but don’t let it take over your everyday life.
Social media, especially at this moment, can finally be utilized for the good that it serves. For instance, even though it’s been almost a year for us here at Gen-Achievers to officially publish our website, we’ve been able to take on additional challenges and opportunities such as the three of us really thinking about our brand, and what we anticipate to get out of our business. Although it’s a shame that this pandemic has effected every aspect of our daily lives, think of the good that has come out of it – no rush hour traffic, saving money on gas/tolls, having that additional time to spend with family or your side hustle, and so much more. This is a time when you can also take a step back, think about what you’re doing, collect your ideas, and actually put them into good use.
Here’s something that I’m doing to keep myself occupied, but respectively ensures that it’s helping me improve professionally:
CourseEra is a great platform that you could use to educate yourself on an array of topics. Every course on Coursera is taught by top instructors from world-class universities and companies, so you can learn something new anytime, anywhere. In fact, there are hundreds of free courses that give you access to on-demand video lectures, homework exercises, and community discussion forums. If you decide to go the route of a paid course, they provide additional quizzes and projects as well as a shareable Course Certificate upon completion which you can showcase on LinkedIn and other professional social platforms. I’m actually starting a free course soon taught by Yale University called, The Science of Well-Being. I recommend checking it out as well as the other courses you can start as early as today.
I hope that each of you remain focused on your paths to that dream job, college degree, or other avenue that will get you to where you want to be in life. We at Gen-Achievers wish you nothing but the best throughout this unusual time of ours, and hope we can all spread positive vibes to those who need it the most!
