One of the most difficult yet rewarding, overwhelming yet exciting, and confusing yet enlightening purchase an individual will make in their lifetime is an engagement ring. Although you and your significant other (hopefully) know the love you have for one another, the engagement ring solidifies this message. Before going into a jeweler shop and buying the first ring you come across, or being stressed about the process of finding the right ring, it's important that you become educated & alert with how it should be done.

I recently became engaged to my amazing fiancé, Lizanne, August 2019. I've been with Lizanne for almost seven years now, which made me realize that it was the right time to pop the question. However, before I was able to ask her to marry me, it was only right to have a ring that made me feel comfortable and passionate about it all. Fortunately, I did not have any trouble going through the process of purchasing the right ring thanks to the people at Toll's Jewelers.
Toll's Jewelers is located close to my hometown in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania - about 35 minutes outside of Philadelphia. The business has been around for 79 years, founded by Benjamin Toll. The company believes in offering the finest quality merchandise at the most competitive prices along with unsurpassed service. Now run by his son, Les Toll, Toll's Jewelers has kept this promise. Not only was the service that I received each time I was with Les outstanding, but I was able to learn the certain aspects one needs to consider when going through their own engagement ring purchase; I'm here to share that with each of you!
Try to go ring shopping on your own, or with someone who knows your significant other personally. Only bring someone else if you truly trust them!. It might be intimidating for most people to go on their own since it's likely the first (and potentially only) time they will ever need to purchase a ring, but it does enable them to self-reflect on their decision. Here are some reasons why I think this is important:
You will likely be more focused on your price range, but will personally accept to pay a little more if that means you can get a better deal out of it, or less if you realize that it is too expensive.
If you bring someone with you, they may sway your opinion with what they prefer instead of you sticking to what you believe your significant other would like. This could result in getting the wrong style, paying a lot more because the person you are with is influencing you to upgrade, or even going with the cheaper diamond/ring since the person you are with is telling you to pay less which turns into getting a poorly designed ring.
Think about going shopping for other items such as clothes. I can bet that a good amount of your wardrobe was purchased based off of someone else telling you they like it rather than you buying it personally.
Make sure the jeweler you plan on purchasing the ring from treats you with respect, and not like a customer. This may sound cliché, but jewelers realize that purchasing an engagement ring is not like any other item you will ever get. There is an emotional connection with buying a ring, which can make some jewelers unethical with how they act towards you. Here are some things to consider when searching for a great jeweler:
The jeweler should let you look at the diamond and ring through a microscope in order to show you any potential blemishes or flaws that it may have. If they are honest with you from the start, then you should be able to trust them with the rings they are offering for the price range your provide.
Make sure that the jeweler has the correct documentation with the ring! You wouldn't buy a pair of Ray Bans or Oakley's without ensuring that they are legitimate; it should be the same when buying a ring. The jeweler should ask if you want to read the documents so that you are aware of the diamond's grading.
Do your research before you plan on purchasing an engagement ring! You may know what your significant other wants or dreams of wearing, but there is much more to a ring. If you go into a jeweler without a general idea of what you want, then it will be difficult for both sides throughout the process. Here are some considerations you should think about when doing your own research:
Ask your significant other what they prefer! You probably don't want them to know you plan on buying a ring, but you can at least have a conversation about what they generally like. This way, you can walk into the jeweler with an idea of the styles you would like to see.
Ask others where they went, and how they were able to decide the right ring. Similar to this post, you can learn so much if you just speak up and ask questions.
There are plenty of other things you should do before purchasing a ring, but remember that no matter how much you spend or how it looks, just know you're buying it because you love your significant other!
